The New York Times article here ran a lengthy subject on Sarawak’s new ruler. The thing that the reporter interested was mainly focused on the ruler’s consort which was a maternal descendant of a high profile Boston financier, Joshua Bates. It was more intriguing to know that she was married to a man with ‘royal’ status that ruled a land half way across the world from United States as opposed to other American women who are attached to more familiar places (i.e. Europe). The reporter of the newspaper article also depicted Kuching, the capital of Sarawak as “…typically Oriental on one hand, possesses many evidences of Western civilization, such as an elaborate telephone system, automobiles, and electric tram cars.”

Petikan akhbar The New York Times di sini menerbitkan satu laporan mengenai Rajah Putih baru Sarawak.
